Support Networks is a non-profit Torbay community project which specialises in matching enthusiastic, motivated Personal Assistants, to clients needing care in Torbay. It is a hands-on service, tailored to the client’s individual needs. Recruiting a PA can seem like a mine field, with conflicting information, creating stress and frustration.
We have a lot of individual experience working within the care sector over the years, from providing care first hand through an agency, creating personal support plans through to matching Personal Assistants to clients. We also know how it feels to be on the receiving end of care as we, ourselves have long term medical conditions and we know how hard it can be to accept care and how debilitating the wrong care can be.
The PAs on our register do not just have the right qualifications and/or experience, they must be able to work in a person-centred way, putting the client first, listening to their needs, hopes and goals. Putting the client in control of their care and helping them to live as independently as possible.
A PA is there to help empower the client and to give them the best future possible.
Once "matched" to a Personal Assistant the client has a voice and can say what they want and when, rather than having to conform to what suits the provider. The client will have the same person providing the care, creating consistency, and there would be a contingency plan in place in case the PA is off. When a client has the same PA caring for them, that PA will notice any changes in health, mood and behaviour. A rapport and trust between them is formed, which is so important when letting someone new into your life and home.
